I need help, me Network exam is next week!!!

Thu Apr 07, 2011 10:33 am

Hello,

I am about to take a networking exam next week, and I am completely lost on something. I have been given the instructions below, and I understand what they are asking for but I just dont know where to start. I was wondering if someone can put me on the right track. No, I dont want anyone to do it for me because I do have to learn it, but I have to draw three seperate diagrams and I just dont know how to start. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Here are the guidelines.

Thanks

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You have been assigned a network block which is 64.96.132.0/22.

We have 3 internal subnets.
Net1 needs to support 190 hosts but may later grow to 400 hosts.
Net2 needs to support 76 hosts but may later grow to 200.
Net3 needs to support 14 hosts but may grow to 100 hosts.

We also want to leave the rest of the address space for future subnets.

You have available 3 routers:

Border router (brouter) has two interfaces
se0
fa0/0

Internal router 1 (irouter1) has three interfaces
fa0/0
fa0/1
se0

Internal router 2 (irouter2) has two interfaces
se0
eth0

You also have available any number of 8, 16, 32, 48, and 96 port 10/100 manageable Ethernet switches.

Your site connects via a border router to the Internet via 81.64.1.0/30 using point to point serial interface, se0. The ISP is at 81.64.1.1 the border router address for interface se0 on that point to point is 81.64.1.2.

To accomplish this goal you have decided to subnet 64.96.132.0/22 into three internal subnets and a point to point link:

64.96.132.0/23 - Net1
64.96.134.0/24 - Net2
64.96.135.0/26 (reserved for future growth)
64.96.135.64/27 (reserved for future growth)
64.96.135.96/28 (reserved for future growth)
64.96.135.112/29 (reserved for future growth)
64.96.135.120/30 (reserved for future growth)
64.96.135.124/30 - point to point link between r1 and r2
64.96.135.128/25 - Net3

and assigned the following IP addresses to the interfaces on the three routers:

Border router (brouter) has 2 interfaces
se0 81.64.1.2/30
fa0/0 64.96.133.254/23

Internal router 1 (irouter1) has two interfaces
fa0/0 64.96.133.253/23
fa0/1 64.96.134.254/24
se0 64.96.135.125/30

Internal router 2 (irouter2) has two interfaces
se0 64.96.135.126/30
eth0 64.96.135.254/25

The border router (brouter) has one Ethernet interface. fa0/0 connects to and instantiates the 64.96.132.0/23 subnet. It also has the serial interface linking to your ISP. It uses ip address 81.64.1.2/30 on the serial link to the ISP.

A internal router (irouter1) is connected to 64.96.132.0/23 via its interface fa0/0 and also connects the 64.96.134.0/24 network via its interface fa0/1. It uses 64.96.133.253/23 for fa0/0 and 64.96.134.254 for fa0/1. irouter1 also has a serial interface se0 that connects to irouter2 at a different site. It uses 64.96.135.125 on se0.

A internal router (irouter2) is connected to both 64.96.135.128/25 via its eth0 interface and 64.96.135.126 via its se0 interface.

The physical network for Net1, 64.96.132.0/23, consists of a group of 5 48 port switches.

Switch 1 - Management address 64.96.133.252
port 1 - connects to brouter fa0/0
port 2 - connects to irouter1 fa0/0
port 3 - connects to switch 2
port 4 - connects to switch 3
port 5 - connects to switch 4
port 6 - connects to switch 5
port 7-10 - unassigned
port 11-48 connect to workstations

Switch 2 - Management address 64.96.133.251
port 1 - connects to switch 1 port 3
port 2-10 - unassigned
port 11-48 connect to workstations

Switch 3 - Management address 64.96.133.250
port 1 - connects to switch 1 port 4
port 2-10 - unassigned
port 11-48 connect to workstations

Switch 4 - Management address 64.96.133.249
port 1 - connects to switch 1 port 5
port 2-10 - unassigned
port 11-48 connect to workstations

Switch 5 - Management address 64.96.133.248
port 1 - connects to switch 1 port 6
port 2-10 - unassigned
port 11-48 connect to workstations

The physical network for Net2, 64.96.134.0/24, consists of two 48 port switches

Switch 1 - Management address 64.96.134.253
port 1 connects to irouter1 fa0/1
port 2 connects to switch 2 port 1
port 3-10 - unassigned
port 11-48 connect to workstations

Switch 2 - Management address 64.96.134.252
port 1 - connects to switch 1 port 2
port 2-10 - unassigned
port 11-48 connect to workstations

The physical network for Net3, 64.96.135.128/25, consists of a 24 port switch

Switch 1 - Management address 64.96.135.253
port 1 connects to irouter2 eth0
port 2-10 - unassigned
port 11-24 connect to workstations

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Draw a logical diagram for the entire 64.96.132.0/22 network
2. Draw a physical diagram for the subnet network Net1, 64.96.132.0/23

3. Draw a physical diagram for the point to point network, 64.96.135.124/30

Count the devices and start putting them on their respective diagram.

That thread should give you some ideas on drawing diagrams. :)
