Dynamic IP to Static IP

Fri Aug 01, 2014 8:02 pm

Hi Champs,
I am trying to run some web services and remote desktop access on my home lab.
Currently, I am using a general household internet services from a local ISP which offer me a dynamic IP address (As you know changes time to time).
If I would like to have a static IP address I have to go for Biz class plan which cost me a lot.
I am wondering is there any service out there that keeps track of my IP address without no hassle? Currently, I log in to a laptop I have remote and use "what is my ip" search on Google to get my new IP address.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards

A dynamic DNS solution will do I think, check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_DNS and http://dyn.com/home-users/ for example, although I'm pretty sure there's a free alternative out there somewhere.

You'll need a device at home that has to stay on and can update DNS. Some home NAS systems and home routers support it out of the box these days.
