Make study lab with some old Cisco kit

Mon Feb 27, 2017 4:33 pm

Hi all,

First time post... I'm an IT professional that has been doing this full time since 1997 or so, however I've become too specialised in the Storage segment and I'm looking to add to my skill set to make myself more employable :-)

One of the areas I need to brush up on is networking, as I seldom touch switches unless they're SAN switches - and even then only to carry out zoning.

As fate would have it, the day my wife and I discussed going for my Cisco certifications - her line of work (she is also in IT) was throwing out a bunch of old IT kit. She managed to snag the following Cisco hardware:
- ASA 5505
- Catalyst 2950
- 2600 series router
- 2800 series router
- 3700 series router

It is possible to set up a lab with the above components, or at least part of them? They're all working, they're just old and her company had no further use for them.

thanks!
