Networking Fundamentals Importance

"If you cannot explain it simply. You don't understand it well enough" - Albert Einstein

I've been into different job interviews and got rejected because I cannot answer the basic questions. It's not like I don't know the answer, I know how to make it work but I cannot simply explain how it works.

I've been reading that many aspiring Network Engineers are on panic because Cisco announced that the exam code will be updated. But what are the changes to this new exam code? New CCNA exam code 200-125 added and replaced some WAN concepts, introduced the Software-defined Networks (SDN) and the fast growing Virtualization Environments. On new CCNA exam code 200-125, you need not to learn Frame Relay because it will be replaced by Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) concepts.
Why Cisco need to update the exam?

Technology is evolving really fast and us, as IT Specialists, need to cope up with the new technologies. Cisco make sure that existing or aspiring Network Engineers are up to date with the new technologies. Maybe the networking technolgy you learned three or two years ago is not being used anymore or replaced with more advanced technology, example is Frame Relay to MPLS.
My materials are for the old CCNA exam!

Looking on the topics of new exam code, there is only few changes in the topics. The networking fundamentals is still there it will not be removed or replaced. The exam is not only focus on how a device work or how to configure it. Based on my CCNA exam experience, most question on the exam is about the concept of computer network.

I've been studying the networking fundamentals for more that 1 year now. Am I already know all about it? No. At least not yet.

Now if you decide to learn Cisco Networking and to get certified. Make sure that you have a solid understanding of networking fundamentals first before taking the exam.
