If you're going to run your own business, you will need contacts or to be a good salesman. I've never known anyone to hire someone to get them accounts, at least not in the beginning. It's hard enough to pay yourself when you first start out. I don't know if I want the CCDP, I see myself going for s...

When I started studying for the CCNA I had no clue whatsoever that I'd need all this equipment! There's no way I could have prepared for the exam without it though. That deal you got on the 871 is nucking futz!! Speaking of paper certificates and all that . . . has anyone ever heard of someone goin...

At any rate, you should be focusing on a CCNP before even dreaming of a CCIE. The CCNP is no cake walk, I've been going over the CBTNuggets BCSI videos for a few days and this certification is going to be much, much, MUCH tougher than the CCNA. http://www.networking-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=5735 I...

Vito, Taking a pay cut to find something to make him happy and align to his future goals is admirable and a move that alot of us can't or wouldn't have the guts to make. I agree. I hadn't seen that thread before your post, and I had no way of knowing that he was unhappy with other aspects of his jo...

Thanks for your input. I didn't even realize that Actual Tests was considered a brain dump. An employee at a Pearsonvue testing facility recommended that I use it. Anyways, I didn't mean to put anyone off; I've been studying extremely hard for the past 4 months and have invested in a 2501, 2610, 36...

I'm not really assuming anything. YOU seem to be assuming that the only way to get a certification is to have a job that allows you to work with the material constantly. I disagree with that. You didn't make it sound like there were any other reasons for leaving the job. I'm not one to stay with a c...

You're asking for questionable information. Also, Actual Tests are considered brain dumps, which this site seems to frown upon. To answer your question as ethically as possible: I believe the security is pretty basic and has to do with wireless more than anything. I didn't see any VoIP stuff when I ...

So you decided that being unemployed is better than working with some technologies that you don't prefer? That seems a little stupid to me. What was stopping you from studying on your own time? Why not put together a lab and learn things at home? That's what I'm doing on my Cisco quest. Sure, it'd b...

When you go into the router, do you see an IP assigned by your ISP? From your description, it sounds like your router may not being pulling an IP from your ISP (maybe they have denied your MAC or something like that). Disclaimer: Your post was pretty big, so I may have missed something and what I sa...

I was going to expand on it, then I realized that what I said makes no sense, lol. You will need a router either way. I'm not sure what I was thinking, I posted that when I had just woken up. I guess I was thinking about routing protocols or something. You will still need something to route (a gatew...

I have one of these:

It has 5x750gb drives in it. I store all of my movies, shows and miscellaneous stuff on it. The thing is great.

You could just connect everything with a switch and use static routes. More of a PITA than buying a router, but surely cheaper.

If you have set up networking properly with VMWare or whatever software you're using, you should simply be able to turn on DHCP or set a static IP for your VMs.

Actually, if you upgrade the IOS on an 800 series you can have multiple VLANs, and therefore do many things. I'm running C870-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M on mine and I have the ability to create multiple VLANs. 871#vlan database 871(vlan)#? VLAN database editing buffer manipulation commands: abort Exi...
