Re: Multicast

Its a pretty large topic. Id say spend a little time understanding RPs, Source and shared trees and the what IGMP and PIM do. Know the basics of what multicast is compared to traditional unicast and why you would use it. I think your right in letting them know your not strong with it. Dont try to ta...

Re: Mikrotik Routers Vs Cisco router

Small shop with little traffic load and the Mikrotik is fine. We have a couple here used for guest wireless edge and they cant hold up to much load. I dont like configuring them and they are a little lite on monitoring and SNMP capabilities. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. Not sayin...

Re: Setting up Software defined Networking (SDN) network

OpenStack and and some VxLAN supported switches or vswitches. I second this. OpenStack is very popular, and VXLAN is rapidly gaining ground. Master these two subjects (Operating OpenStack after it's set up is easy in my experience, but setting it up I've never done and heard it's very hard), and yo...

Re: Need help with vrf-lite

if you are L3 to each building then start your VRFs there. keep them all in the same VRF and push them out the same vlan at the firewall.

simpler solution would be just vlan them off and run that up to to your firewalls.

Re: Good news, bad news...

Ive worked that schedule before but from an office and loved it. And yes the best part is being done for the day by lunch. Anything earlier and it disrupted my evening and weekends. The at home bit sounds like a plus if you are the type that can work at home. Wife, kids, distractions around to keep ...

On top of that you dont even have to get out of the car to buy alcohol. A lot of liquor stores have a drive up window!!

Hell they will even put the keg in the back of your truck for yah.

Re: EIGRP neighbor not on common subnet

Your errors on R8 are showing the two on the wrong ports. The error says R11 is on S0/1 and R10 is on S0/2 but your setup and config shows R11 is on S0/2 and R10 is on S0/1 Check your physical connections. This might also be a bug with Packet tracer or GNS3 which ever you are using. Try shutting dow...

Re: Nexus 9k... ACI... anyone?

I couldn't see how Vmware would expect to leave NSX closed. Its not in there interest to dig into the R&S, firewall, etc game. they do virtualization and partner with others to do the other stuff. I would think over time NSX will open up as it picks up more steam.

But what the hell do I know...

Re: cisco 6500 multicast routing issue

Double check a couple things on the 6500: -pim spare mode enabled on proper interfaces -IGMP snooping on that VLAN -RP configured (do other groups show the RP?) To me not seeing an mroute for the group means you are not receiving the traffic on a multicast interface. Its hard to tell without the ful...

Re: cisco 6500 multicast routing issue

Is the 4948 killing multicast with IGMP-snooping? Disable it for the vlan and test.

Also post the show ip mroute for the group. Im looking to see if you have any interfaces in the OIL or incoming interface list or NULL.

Re: normal range of network-traffic utilization % of switchp

This is really hardware dependent but my general experience shows issues start to happen around 75% load. At 50-60% load is when I start working to provision more or faster links. You have to be cognizant of your growth rate (or trending growth) and understand how long it will take to get form say 6...

Re: Simple (I think) L3 switch routing question

why is routing and OSPF coming into play is this basic setup? Do you need to route from SWITCH-A or just extend several vlans down to it?

If you just need a couple vlans on that switch allow them across the trunk and use the same gateway settings as everyone else on SWITCH-B.

Done.
